million Americans who are classified as "Nones", that is they do
not embrace any of the "revealed" religions and the vast
majority of them are not Atheists. In actuality, the vast
majority of the "Nones" are actually Deists!
The survey shows a giant step forward for Deism in the fact that it
actually uses the word "Deist" and for the very significant raw
numbers it shows as representing the number of people who are
Deists. In reality, the number of Deists is actually
higher than the survey shows because the survey uses an outdated

Elihu Palmer was an ordained Presbyterian minister from Connecticut who valued truth much more than dogma and, therefore, became a Deist. In 1796 he started the Deistical Society of New York and became a close friend and fellow Deist of Thomas Paine.
In 1793 he became blind due to yellow fever. However, this did not stop him in his efforts to promote Deism! His wife helped him to continue the Deist struggle for enlightenment and was of great importance in helping him write this excellent book. Perhaps his blindness and the Bible's false promises of "faith-healing" gave him even greater insight into the reality that is Deism.
Palmer does a great job in both conveying the sublime natural beauty of Deism while also making the shortcomings of the Bible crystal clear. Thomas Paine had this to say to Elihu Palmer regarding this important book: "I received by Mr. Livingston the letter you wrote me, and the excellent work you have published. I see you have thought deeply on the subject, and expressed your thoughts in a strong and clear style. About The Author
Dr. Henry E. Jones was born in New
Orleans, Louisiana in 1939. He was raised in the small Louisiana town of
Wisner where he finished high school. Dr.Jones attended Louisiana State
University in Baton Rouge, graduating with a BS in zoology. He then
attended L.S.U. School of Medicine in New Orleans, receiving his M.D.
Degree in 1965. He did a mixed pediatric internship at Charity Hospital
of New Orleans.
Dr. Jones finished
the first two years of a psychiatric residency at Warren State Hospital
in Pennsylvania. He completed his psychiatric residency at Herrick
Memorial Hospital in Berkeley, California in 1969.
Dr. Jones opened a
private psychiatric practice in Los Angeles in 1970. He also worked as
an instructor in psychiatry at University of Southern California-Los
Angeles County Hospital. He practiced psychiatry exclusively for a few
years, and then entered a Family Practice Residency at the Santa Monica
Medical Center. In 1974 he completed this training. For several years,
he limited his practice to psychosomatic disorders.
In 1976, Dr. Jones returned to Louisiana to practice
in Ouachita Parish. During the next 25 years he practiced both
psychiatry and general medicine. He served as Chief of Staff of one
hospital and as chief of the Department of Family Practice, as well as
Director of the Inpatient Psychiatric Unit of Saint Francis Medical
Center in Monroe.
