There is not a single reason why one chooses to be a deist, there are at least four: cosmological, teleological, moral and personal experience arguments.
Deists can believe all four arguments, or just one. They are not dogmas, they are reasoning.

People who become Deists instead of Atheists do so because they think the order, design and principles found in nature and throughout the known universe lets us know that The Supreme Intelligence/God exists. Atheists, from my understanding, believe the order, design and principles randomly happened.
